    First-of-a-kind-Kredite (FOAK)

Up to €300 million for novel, innovative technologies: As part of the Germany Fund, KfW Capital is promoting investment in first-of-a-kind (FOAK) technologies with a new program. The aim is to support innovative start-ups and scale-ups and close an existing financing gap in this still underdeveloped market segment.

    • Overview of details
      • The program provides up to €300 million in state capital, which will be invested in newly established private-sector funds. These funds finance innovative industrial FOAK technologies, products, and processes.
      • The fund managers raise additional capital from private investors in order to leverage government capital and significantly increase the total volume of financing options.
      • FOAK projects are characterized by a high degree of technological novelty and innovation, which often means that they are unable to obtain sufficient equity or debt financing. The program thus closes an existing financing gap in this market segment.
      • The providers are currently in negotiations with KfW Capital with the aim of being able to provide initial funding for FOAK technologies as early as the first half of 2026.
      • The program is part of the Germany Fund and specifically supports innovative start-ups and scale-ups in bringing their forward-looking technologies to market maturity, thereby driving innovation in Germany.
