As part of the WIN initiative (Growth and Innovation Capital for Germany), KfW Capital is specifically committed to expanding qualification programmes in the venture capital sector. Together with the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT) Berlin, one of Germany's leading business universities, practical training programmes have been developed that are aimed specifically at future and existing VC investors.
‘Venture education is crucial for attracting new investor groups to the venture capital asset class and thus strengthening financing opportunities for start-ups,’ says Dr Jörg Goschin, CEO of KfW Capital.
The aim of the collaboration is to facilitate access to the German VC market, activate new investor potential and increase the quality of investment decisions through in-depth knowledge and networking.
Starting in November 2025, ESMT will start certificate programmes developed in close cooperation with KfW Capital:
Leader in Venture Capital - LP Track
The LP Track of the Leader in Venture Capital programme at ESMT Berlin is aimed at future limited partners and provides comprehensive knowledge of capital allocation, VC manager evaluation and due diligence. Participants learn how to integrate VC investments into broader portfolios, identify co-investment opportunities, and consider legal and regulatory aspects. Through practical case studies and networking opportunities, they acquire the skills to make informed investment decisions in the venture capital sector.
Leader in Venture Capital – GP Track
The GP Track of the Leader in Venture Capital programme is aimed at aspiring general partners and focuses on the development of fundraising strategies, deal sourcing and portfolio construction. Participants learn how to formulate compelling investment theses, build effective governance structures and successfully manage their VC firms. Through practical projects and exchanges with industry experts, they acquire the skills necessary to succeed in the dynamic world of venture capital.
